Members of the school’s STEM Club have made it through to this year’s regional final of the Toyota Technology challenge in Derby on the 29th April. Joseph Parker, Joseph Lawson, Frank Carroll and Emily Davis (year 9) were successful in the solar powered vehicle category. Aidan Pinder, Tom Bennet, Jacob Derby, Joseph Patrick and Jack Hodgetts (year 8) have made it through in the PIC category, where they had to design and make a vehicle that was programmed to avoid obstacles. On the day, they will have to give a 5 minute presentation to a panel of judges who will then interviewe them on their project. They will then have to race their vehicles against the other finalists.
If they win the regional final (and £250), they will be invited to attend the National Final on Saturday 15th May 2010 at Toyota Manufacturing UK in Derbyshire where they could win £1,000 for school and a six-day holiday to Greece!

They went through their final assessment on the afternoon of Wednesday 3rd March and were awarded their Peer Listener Certificates by Mrs Shaw and Mr Mohan. On Tuesday 2nd March Worcestershire’s Charlotte Meek visited the school specially to watch the students launch their programme with Year 7. Pictured with their certificates are: standing: Rachael, Rhiannon, Miriam, Lucy and Heather; seated: Laura, Helena and Miranda. We are very grateful to Year 9 pupils Ellie Stokes, Alix Jones and Libby Wood for assisting in the process of training and assessment.
