Hagley Catholic High School’s Green Flag status was renewed on Tuesday 13th July, following a visit from the Keep Britain Tidy Green Flag assessment team. Green Flag is the highest award available to an Eco School and recognises the fact that education in sustainability is embedded into the life of the school. Many congratulations and thanks to the members of the Eco Schools Action Team who hosted the event. The school will soon receive a full written report as well as a new Green Flag for display outside the school.

Tuesday, 22 June 2010
On Friday 18th June a number of pupils attended The Three Counties Show at Malvern for The Worcestershire School Food Awards. Matthew Nicholls (Yr10) won The Worcestershire Young Cook of the Year. He cooked a two course, healthy meal appropriate for teenagers. His meal was cooked in front of an audience and judges in the Cookery Theatre. Matthew made burgers with paprika and onions with garlic potatoes and a salad with a dressing. He also made a dessert of strawberry and blackberry smoothie with piped cream and crushed biscuits. Matthew had one hour to cook his meal for the judges to taste and was delighted to win the competition. He won a large range of plants for the school vegetable garden; a day’s cooking with a chef at a Ledbury Oriental restaurant, £20 of Tesco vouchers, and a family ticket for The Worcester Warriors Rugby, Warriors goodie bag and vegetable plants for his own garden at home.
Jack Turner (Yr7) was the winner of The Go for Gold competition. This involved him designing a healthy packed lunch for a sports person involved in the 2012 Olympics. Gemma Taylor (Yr7) and Emma Griffin (Yr8) were the runners up in this Worcestershire Schools competition.

Birmingham’s new Archbishop meets Hagley pilgrims in Lourdes
Written by Mr F Mohan
Wednesday, 09 June 2010
Birmingham’s recently appointed Archbishop, Bernard Longley, took time out in Lourdes last week to meet the twelve Hagley pilgrims, who, despite the pressure of exams, gave up their half term holiday to work with the sick and elderly. The meeting took place in the St.Bernadette Basilica after the official Opening Mass of the pilgrimage. The Year 12 students experienced a life-changing week involving a lot of fun as well as a lot of hard work. On Tuesday 8th June Angela Whelan, the Head of the Lourdes Hospitality, wrote to the school to thank the Hagley pilgrims and to compliment them on their “commitment, good humour and wonderful service to the hotel pilgrims”.
