Graphics Print E-mail

This course has been designed to build on the Year 9 Graphics course and it encourages you to design and make products with creativity and originality, using a range of graphic and modelling materials.  You will be enthused and challenged by the range of practical activities possible.  You will design and make products using graphic media and new technologies to prepare you for the world of work.  Year 10 is organised into a series of skills sessions followed by short designand make projects which then lead you to the major controlled assessment project.


Major Project Briefs:

Every two years the exam board gives us several Controlled Assessment briefs to choose from.  Although the briefs may well be different there is always plenty of choice; briefs this year include:

  • Design and make all the Promotional Materials for the launch of a new music CD, including the CD, CD case, a standee and other promotional items, such as t-shirts, badges, etc.
  • Design and make a pop-up book or a series of cards on a specific theme (look at the work of Robert Sabuda on the internet!). 
  • Design and make the promotional materials for the launch of a new children’s movie.   

Our students have designed and made some great products and working with a real client, to help you design and make it, makes a big difference to the outcomes. 
 

This is a fun and exciting course which will really develop your design and communication skills and open your mind to the opportunities available to you and to the kinds of incredible products that are out there. It will develop your drawing skills, your ICT skills, your independence and your ability to work as a part of a team. Graphics is all about your ability to develop and communicate your ideas to other people; a skill which is much in demand. Every year we introduce live briefs, working with local companies and organisations and competitions form a key part of developing your presentation and communication skills.
