15 Year 12 students worked in two shifts on Saturday 5th December to take part in a community bag pack at the Franche store of the Co-Op. The Kidderminster shoppers were very impressed by the Hagley pilgrims and gave generously, donating over £400 in six hours. Hagley Catholic High School is once again indebted to Sarah Smith, of the Midcounties Co-Operative, for organising the bag pack for the Hagley Lourdes group for the third consecutive year.

Hagley’s great Christmas toothbrush collection broke all expectations by pushing through the 1000 barrier in its last two days to reach a staggering total of 1300. The toothbrushes were dispatched on Friday to the charity ‘Crisis’, with Hagley donating almost 50% of the total number of toothbrushes needed nationally. Many thanks to all the pupils and parents who responded so generously to this personal appeal from Mr.Hammond. To find out more about this charity, visit www.crisis.org.uk/christmasappeal.

The Fairtrade Foundation contacted the school on Tuesday 1st December to confirm that the school’s second Fair Trade Status application has been successful. The award is renewed in recognition of the fact that the school has moved forward in significant ways since the first designation in 2006. Fair Trade assessors were impressed by the importance given to Fair Trade in the Peace Child Ambassador workshops, as well as the large number of Fair Trade based Extended Projects in the Sixth Form. The Year 10 Fair Trade Enterprise Team currently consists of Sam Haynes, Stephen Rodgers, Dan Homer, Liam Thomas and Tim Chater.

The 700 barrier has already been passed as the Hagley school community gets behind this year’s Crisis at Christmas Appeal. The school originally set itself the target of providing 300 of the 3000 toothbrushes required nationally for a special dental care project targeting the homeless this Christmas. Every day has seen new targets being set and 800 now seems to be a definite possibility. The toothbrushes have to be sent off by Friday so we just have two days to reach our final total.
