Booster classes for GCSE Religious Studies have now begun for Yr 11 pupils. These voluntary classes run on Thursday evening from 3:35pm until 4:30pm in the RE Department. There are two sessions for each topic: one focusing purely on knowledge, its application and evaluation; the other on examination technique.
Pupils have received invitations to these classes based on their performance in end of module tests. If a pupil who has not received an invitation wishes to attend a specific class, they must speak to their RE teacher in advance of the class.
The following classes are currently scheduled:
- November 12th & 19th: Prejudice, Discrimination & Equality
- November 26th & December 3rd: Marriage & the Family
- January 14th & 21st: Birth & Death

The street children of Colombia have now received the Hagley friendship bracelets which were made last year by the present Year 13. The bracelets were blessed at a special Mass for Columbia last October and were presented to Carlos Arturo on his recent visit to Hagley to meet the Eco Schools Action Group. The photos show the Colombian teenagers with their friendship bracelets, made in the colours of the Colombian flag.

On Wednesday
7th October three Peace Child Ambassadors from Year 11 went to
Worcester to meet KatieHaywood, one of only four young people from the UK who
will be attending a pre-Copehagen Childrens’ Climate Forum in Denmark in
November. To meet Katie the Hagley students travelled to Nunnery Wood,
Worcester’s leading Green Flag school and a long-standing champion of
sustainability education.
Together
with pupils from the Nunnery Wood Eco Schools Action Group, the Hagley pupils
learned about the ‘350’ campaign. 350 parts of CO2 per million is the uppermost
safe limit if human habitation of planet earth is to be sustainable. The Hagley
group is now considering how to engage the Hagley school community in the
lead-up to the Copenhagen summit of world leaders, which takes place in
December. To find out more about the 350 campaign, visit www.350.org.

Approximately half the pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 turned out on Friday 2nd October to enjoy the traditional two-hour long Freshers’ Disco. The social event is designed to help the new Year 7 pupils settle into the school community in an atmosphere of fun and friendship. Fair Trade refreshments were sold throughout the evening and the dance music, provided by Midland Entertainments, was a great success. The party was organised and hosted by the Sixth Form Committee and will provide them with much needed funds for their own end-of-year Leavers’ Ball.
